The famous Panch Prayag of Uttarakhand state

There are five famous Prayag in Uttarakhand state, which you can see during Char Dham yatra in Uttarakhand. The confluence site of two or more major rivers is called Prayag. It is believed that where there is a confluence of the Prayag site ie two holy rivers, one can get salvation from bathing. Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Nandprayag and Vishnuprayag These Prayag sites are known in Uttarakhand as Panch Prayags. All these Prayag sites are located on the Badrinath National Highway. In all these Prayag sites there is a confluence of two holy rivers, one of the famous rivers of Uttarakhand. During the yatra, the pilgrims bath in these holy Prayag sites and go to the temples to visit. Bathing in these holy Prayag sites gives peace to the mind. It is believed that after bathing here the body and soul are pure.


First Prayag is Vishnuprayag

Vishnuprayag is one of the famous confluence sites of Uttarakhand. Vishnuprayag is counted among Panch Prayags of Uttarakhand state. This place is located at the confluence of Dhauli Ganga (Vishnu Ganga) and the Alaknanda rivers. On the confluence of the Alaknanda and Dhauli Ganga, Narada had pleased Lord Vishnu with chanting of Ashtakshari. After the Devprayag in Punch Prayag, special significance of Vishnuprayag is considered. It is believed that by taking a dip in the confluence here, the sin committed by human is destroyed and he receives salvation.


Second Prayag is Nandprayag

Nandprayag is the second Prayag from the Panch Prayag of Uttarakhand. Nandprayag is the confluence site of the Alaknanda river and Nandakini river. Here is the holy confluence of rivers Nandakini and Alaknanda. During the yatra, pilgrims come to Nandprayag and take a dip in Sangam and go to Badrinath Dham. There is also a big religious significance to take bath here. It is believed that by taking a dip in the confluence here, the sin committed by human is destroyed.


Third Prayag is Karnaprayag

Karnaprayag is located on the confluence of the Alaknanda river and the Pindar river. This one of the Panch Prayags in Uttarakhand. Pindar river Alaknanda river is one of the five tributaries, which joins the Alaknanda river in Karnaprayag. Therefore, Karnaprayag is counted as five Prayags in Uttarakhand. This place is also called the place of pilgrimage to Mahabharata's character Danvir Karna. During the yatra, pilgrims come to Karnprayag and take a bath in Sangam and go to Badrinath Dham.


Fourt Prayag is Rudraprayag

Rudraprayag is the confluence site of the Alaknanda and the Mandakini river. Rudraprayag, one of the Panch Prayags of Uttarakhand, has its own importance. Lord Shiva was also addressed as "Rudra", hence the name of this Sangam has been named "Rudraprayag". This place is also popular as sacred Pilgrimage sites. This place is of great importance due to Mandakini coming from Kedarnath and the confluence of the Alaknanda river coming from Badrinath. It is believed that there is liberation by taking a dip here.


Fifth Prayag is Devprayag

Devprayag is the site of the confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi river located on the Badrinath National Highway of Uttarakhand. Devprayag is one of the Panch Prayags of Uttarakhand. Due to being situated at the Sangam site, Devprayag has a big religious significance just like of the Tirthraj Prayag. On this place meets the Bhagirathi and the Alaknanda river. After this confluence site, these two rivers are known as "Ganges River". It is believed that by bathing here all sins are destroyed.
